Adding QuiCC Captions to a Facebook Live Video

Updated: May 19, 2020

Facebook Live video gets 6x the engagement of other types of posts and we know that the majority of engagement comes after the live is over. However, if your audience can't hear you when their volume is off, then what is the point? Facebook has the ability to add captions within their video editing tools, but there is an easier way and I am here to show you how to add QuiCC captions to your video.

First things first; go live. If you need help with ideas on what to talk about, download our free 30 Days of Video Prompts calendar. We have dropped 30 daily ideas on what to talk about on your live or prerecorded video. Once your live is over, download your video to your desktop. If you forget to download it once your stream is over, you can find the video in your video library, click on the three dots in the upper right-hand corner for the drop-down and click on download video.

Download Video from Facebook

Once your video has been downloaded, log-in to your QuiCC account at If you don't have an account, sign-up for a free account and upload your video. After your video has been uploaded and transcribed automatically by QuiCC, edit your captions and finalize your video. Instead of clicking on the green button, click on the 3 dots and download your .SRT file.

Download QuiCC SRT File

Go back to your Facebook video and go to your edit video this time. Click on the Subtitles & Captions (CC) on the right-hand side of the screen.

Add Subtitles and Closed Captions

Click on "Upload" in the "Add New Captions" box. You will need to rename your .SRT file in your computer's download folder. Facebook's file naming convention is

Upload Your SRT File

To see your captions before they are published to your video, click on the pencil next to your file.

Edit Your .SRT File

This is where you can adjust the timing and clean up any details you missed in QuiCC. When I uploaded the .SRT file here, I did not have to make any edits! QuiCC did all the heavy lifting for me. Yay!

Adjust the Timing of Your Captions

Hit save and check out your handy work. You will need to toggle the captions to "on" in the settings at the bottom of the video by clicking on the gear icon.

And there you go! QuiCC captions on your Facebook Live video!

Your Video with Captions

You've already captioned your video, so why not download it with your stylized captions and make a playlist of live videos in YouTube. No need to upload your .SRT, because the captions are burned into the video. You can also upload your video if it is under 5 minutes to LinkedIn.

Use video editing software and chop up the video into 15-second clips and share in Facebook and Instagram stories and cut into 30-second clips for the Instagram feed. Or add it to your IGTV. There are so many ways to repurpose video!

Are you ready for your video content to be heard by the 85% of people who watch video with the volume off? Sign-up for a free account from Quicc and get to captioning!
